San Francisco Events October 2008: Pumpkin Pandemonium

The Pumpkin Pandemonium will be held at San Francisco’s Pier 39 on Sunday, October 26th, 2008 from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm.  Children 12 and under are welcome to visit the shops, restaurants, and attractions to trick or treat.  Face painting, a costume demonstration, and a mystery station will be available.  In addition, there will be photos and an 80s Halloween Show.  Children will be able to wander through a pumpkin patch and pick one free pumpkin.

San Francisco Events: Victorian Alliance House Tour

The Victorian Alliance House Tour takes place on Sunday, October 19th, from 1:00pm-5:00pm.  This is a walking tour through Presidio Heights of select elegant residences opened especially for this event.  The net proceeds from The Victorian Alliance House Tour will benefit the Palace of Fine Arts Restoration Project.  The tour is being co-sponsored by the Alliance and San Francisco Architectural Heritage.  Guests will visit historic homes such as the Roos House, Bernard Maybeck’s residential masterpiece, along with the Swedenborigian Church, Le Petit Trianon and more.

Bring your walking shoes!  This is a self-guided tour, and complimentary van service in vintage automobiles will continuously loop the route.  Refreshments will be offered as well.

Advance tickets may be ordered for $40 through October 11th if ordering by mail, or through October 17th if ordering online with PayPal.  Tickets after will be $50.  Purchase tickets online or call (650) 344-9511 for more information.

San Francisco Events: San Francisco Native Jamboree

The San Francisco Native Jamboree is a place for Native San Franciscans to get together and enjoy the night.  The 2008 San Francisco Native Jamboree will benefit the San Francisco Conservation Corps, a community-based, non profit organization dedicated to providing job-training opportunities for our youth while beautifying San Francisco.  This year’s theme is “San Francisco in Film.”  The Jamboree will celebrate our city’s film fame with a fun filled evening including the announcement of our very own San Francisco Native’s Hall of Fame Film Choice Award.

The San Francisco Native Jamboree is this Friday, October 3, 2008 from 6:30-11:30 pm at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel at 450 Powell Street.  It is $65 per person, and prices include a non-hosted bar, dinner, dancing, and entertainment.  Register online here.

San Francisco Events: The 12th Annual California Wine Classic

For all of you philanthropic wine lovers, this one is for you.  The Annual California Wine Classic is being held at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco on Thursday, September 25th, at 6:00 pm.  The benefit is being held to support the finding of a cure for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.  There will be over twenty California wines, live music, a silent and live auction, and gourmet cuisine.

All event proceeds are dedicated to medical research and support programs.  The goal this year is to fund  a total of $18M towards critical research, which includes funding local researchers at UCSF, Stanford, and Kaiser.  Tickets are $85 minimum with additional donations appreciated.  Tickets can be purchased online.

The Big Bang Gala Kicks Off the Grand Opening Weekend of the new California Academy of Sciences

The Big Bang is the opening gala of the new California Academy of Sciences, and will benefit the various educational programs at the new academy. It will be held Thursday, September 25th, and is the beginning of a weekend packed with events, food, and fun at the new Academy. There are two choices that you have if you would like to purchase tickets and attend the gala:

  • Supernovas (individual tickets are $750) and include early admission at 6pm, prize drawings, complimentary valet parking, dinner, dessert, and dancing
  • Shining Stars (individual tickets are $350) and include admission from 9pm - 1am, light refreshment, dancing and dessert

Free Shakespeare in the Park San FranciscoFree Shakespeare in the Park is held yearly at different locations in the Bay Area. This month, you can attend Shakespeare in the Park in San Francisco at the Presidio Main Post Parade Ground Lawn. This year’s performance is the story of Pericles.

Slow Food Nation Comes to San Francisco for Labor Day

It is a hot day today in San Francisco! In fact, why am I writing when I should be at the beach? Hmmm….

Labor Day weekend is fast approaching. It is actually already here for a lot of us. With the crazy gas prices, people are not willing to travel far distances as much anymore. Bay Area airports are expecting a decline in travel. According to a survey conducted by AAA, the number of people travelling more than 50 miles will drop by .9% this Labor Day Weekend compared to Labor Day 2007. If you live in San Francisco, or anywhere near here, there is plenty of fun to be had this weekend. The weather is absolutely gorgeous!

Slow Food Nation events are being held this Labor Day Weekend in San Francisco from Friday to Monday. Slow Food Nation is a celebration of food that is promoting a sustainable food system. San Francisco has always been ahead of its time when it comes to being environmentally conscious, so it is fitting that San Francisco is the place to hold this exciting event. Events will be held at Civic Center Plaza and Fort Mason. Events of the Slow Food Nation include films, a food pavillion, workshops, entertainment, just to name a few. Be sure to check out Slow Food Rocks, the two day musical event for the Slow Food Nation. Not a San Francisco Event, but Sausalito is close enough for Labor Day Weekend!

Once you are done attending the many wonderful Slow Food Nation events in San Francisco thisSausalito Art Festival Labor Day weekend, head across the Golden Gate Bridge to the Sausalito Art Festival.

There will be more than 20,000 original works of art including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, photography and more. There will be entertainment, champagne, great wine, and gourmet bites.

EcoTuesday Comes to San Francisco!

What is EcoTuesday?

EcoTuesday is an opportunity for sustainable businesses to get together and share ideas, network, and put forth new ideas regarding sustainability in business.  This event is held the fourth Tuesday of every month and currently covers six cities across the United States.  Tomorrow, San Francisco businesses are lucky enough to be able to attend EcoTuesday at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel.

Location and Registration Information

EcoTuesday San Francisco will take place at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel, and will run from 6:30 9:00 pm.  Tickets are $10 if you register online before 5:00 pm on Monday, August 25th.  Otherwise, tickets are $20 at the door.

San Francisco Events: Festival of Sail

The Festival of Sail started on Wednesday, July 23rd with the Parade of Sail. Hundreds of water craft including over 35 tall ships sailed under the Golden Gate into The San Francisco Bay on Wednesday to kick of The Festival of Sail that went on until Sunday, July 27th. Three villages were set up along the San Francisco Waterfront. (more…)
